Introduction
Introduction
Swarmalators are generalizations of phase oscillators that swarm around in space and they synchronize in time. They are intended as prototypes for the many natural and artificial systems with “swarmalation”[1] -- have an interaction between synchronization (coordination in time) and swarming (coordination in space). Examples include, biological microswimmers, chemical nanomotors, magnetic domain walls and robotic swarms.
The code below is for a case-study of swarmalators which run on a 1D ring (https://arxiv.org/abs/2203.10191). This simple model captures the essence of the more realistic 2D swarmalator model (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-017-01190-3) yet is also solvable (see paper linked above).

[1] A (bidirectional) interplay between synchronization and swarming has been dubbed “swarmalation”[2, 3]. We are open to suggestion for a better name. “Swarmalation” seems the cleanest generalization: If oscillators oscillate causing oscillations, then swarmalators swarmalate causing swarmalations.
